Maryborough

Maryborough

Maryborough has a lot of heritage listed buildings that you can see while driving through. We loved the old buildings and enjoyed our morning strolls along the Mary River. We only planned to stay for one night but ended up here for two as there is more to see than we thought.

Things We Can Suggest

Brennan and Geraghtys Store was a store that ceased trading in 1972. Everything was left on the shelf and it is now preserved for the public to take a trip back in time. It was great showing Maddi old Weetbix packets and comparing what they look like now. The staff were very keen to give us a history lesson on the place and I would have loved more of a chat if it wasn’t for our tired toddler.

Queens Park was a 10min walk from our campsite. There are large fig trees for the kids to climb and some large scale musical chimes to play. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it, but seeing as it was a short walk, it was a good way to pass some of the early morning with kids. There is a train track that runs through the park so I expect that would be a better time to visit.

Mary Poppins creator was born here. This was a little fact I only learnt once here. After getting in our car to go for a drive to the statue we also learnt it was in walking distance of where we were staying. You will also trip out at the traffic lights which show Marry Poppin opening and shutting her umbrella.

Visit Hervey Bay to take a stroll along the beaches or do a whale watching trip if it’s the right time of year. We went to Torquay and spent half a day walking along the esplanade admiring the long jettys. The kids enjoyed climbing on the rocks and playing in the playground.

Our Accommodation

Mary River RV  we checked into this place last minute and were so happy we did. The couple managing were very friendly and we were also so excited by the clean bathrooms after our basic camp setup at Inskip.
