Charleville

Hotel Corones
If you are after a glimpse into the Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of the Air, Bilbies or some Star Gazing then Charleville has the sights for you. We did a drive to the information centre near the airport to decide on what we most wanted to see. My back was playing up here and after trying unsuccessfully to see a doctor, as they were too busy, I settled on whatever the chemist might offer me.
Things we can suggest
Seeing the Bilbies was on our list to do ever since the kids started reading the children’s book, ‘Hunwick’. Visitors can browse the centre at no cost which I think is worth a look as there is plenty of information to take in. There are also a couple of tours; we did the up close and personal tour at 10am (basically because this time suited us). We had a pat of the endangered species; they are incredibly soft and we all instantly fell in love with the cute animal. The Bilby is being threatened by feral cats, foxes and rabbits (which take over their burrows). The affect these animals had on the Bilby had us in amazement. They are a nocturnal animals and we viewed them feeding under red light; they darted back and forth all over the place and it was hard to keep the kid’s squeals with laughter contained. It’s sad to see these disappearing and we will be definitely adding the chocolate Bilby to next years Easter basket in support of them!
Our Accommodation
We stayed at the Cob and Co Caravan park. Because of the back pain I didn’t even look to see what alternative cheap camping there was in the area. I needed a hot shower to alleviate a bit of the pain! It was dry and dusty when we stayed here and it was a basic campground. The bathroom looked newly painted though and was extremely clean. I can also add that the water pressure of the hot showers was amazing and did the trick. One happy camper!
