Pre-writing

Pre-writing skills enable children to be ready for writing. A lot of pre-writing patterns are comprised of movements that most letters and numbers are made of. It is important to practise these skills to develop fluency, therefore producing legible writing.
Take your writing to the beach and practise your pre-writing skills in the sand for an extra sensory feel. Follow the link for some pre-writing patterns we tried.
Fairy Garden
Fairy gardens are a great way to engage in storytelling. All children love the thought of magical creatures, their faces light up and they will talk for ages on the topic. Kids love the idea of exchanging pictures or notes with fairies as well. Get creative and think of possible fairy names and spells. I have found it is a fantastic camp set-up activity. While the adults set up the camp sites the kids will keep themselves amused looking for an ideal position for their fairy garden.
