Day at the Shops
Equipment:
- Grocery Catalogues
- A4 paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pen

Instructions:
- Ask your child to be in charge of shopping for healthy snacks for the week.
- Pre-cut or have your child cut snack items that they will need for hikes etc. (Older children can write a list.)
- Glue pictures on a piece of paper.
- Have your child check off their items with a pen as you do the shopping. Have their items placed in a separate section of the trolley.
- Allow your child to put their items through a separate transaction to the family shop.

Walk around the shop pointing out the different areas such as fresh produce and the deli. Show them where they can find the price and point out the tags that indicate specials. Encourage your child to take part in conversation with the cashier and allow them to use cash and see the exchange of money take place. Later you can look over the receipt with your child and talk about the items and prices. Repeat this shopping experience but let them put the items through the self-checkout instead.
