Wannabe Blogger

Blogger on the moveBlogging on the road is not as glamorous as I thought it would be. Just trying to send off a photo from my phone is challenging enough with terrible Wi-Fi and kids that require immediate attention as soon as my hands touch a tech device. A few weeks into camper life I needed some ‘me time’ and decided to go out to work on my blog. I knew most libraries would have internet but I had this idea of sipping on a latte while busily typing on my computer. We have all seen those people, happily working, within reach of a cabinet of goodies and caffeinated drinks to keep them going. I always envied them, having a job that enabled them to be out at a variety of locations while I had to turn up at the same daily grind.

My husband decided he would go watch a local footy game with the kids so he could drop me off somewhere along the way. Being new to this remote working I wasn’t too sure where to go other than Macca’s. I was happy to be anywhere if it meant alone time. I went along and ordered my coffee and asked for a Wi-Fi code. “Sorry our Wi-Fi isn’t working at the moment” the young guy mumbled. Shit. Now I was stuck there until hubby finished up at the game. I thought I may as well see if I could find something to do while off-line. I found the only booth free of rubbish that would allow me to spread out a bit. After setting up I sat down to find myself and my laptop glued to the table. Yuk! After the breakfast rush I think I found a table where kids must have smeared their maple syrup over everything. I went back to the counter and explained the situation showing them the sticky mess from my hand to elbow and along my chest in hope of some sympathy. Damn- no free coupon for coffee. I asked for a cloth to clean myself and the table. After the amount of elbow grease required removing the unwanted goo I had worked up enough of a sweat and took my jumper off anyway. I sighed at the choice of my child-free time; the noise started to increase, kids pilled in wearing sports jerseys demanding ice-creams and cheeseburgers.

I realised I had made another mistake when choosing the booth. Although there was heaps of table space the glare from the window made it almost impossible to see my screen. I decided to instead just finish my coffee. We all know that the coffee served by the 16 year old behind the counter is barely drinkable most of the time. But a strick budget and motherhood has accustomed me with the taste of cold instant coffee. I enjoyed every sip of that coffee and decided that today was not the day I would pretend to be some world famous blogger. The beach was calling and I had no kids!

    1. It’s harder than what I thought to blog along the road. You’re mostly out of reception and the little bit you sometimes can get is not normally enough to post a collection of photos or video.
